The Plan

"Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, this time more wisely." - Unknown

I'm sure it is evident that my employment is causing me to lose my mind. It has been suggested that I seek professional help with my mini-breaks from reality. I was not going to take this suggestion, but I was informed that one may go out on short-term disability for high levels of stress.

The first step is seeking out counseling. I take that step Friday. I will have to paint a picture of my reality to show that I am crazy, but not so crazy that I need to be locked away. This will result in a plan of action. The details are vague from that point, but I will be sure to let the Shrink know that stress leave is a must. The second step is not working and getting paid for it.

It's all a shot in the dark, but it will be worth it.

I can understand your position in this matter, and I would tend to agree with you; however, if it takes a shrink to make me not work I will gladly make that sacrifice.

I think being locked up with all those people are completely detached from reality would be absolute torture. Think of "One Who Flew Over the CooKoos Nest," or "12 Monkies."

Quitting would be a good thing. Making them pay for you not to work is much better. Especially if you plan to quit upon your return to work.

Also, in a little known fact I've been to the shrink before. I was ordered to go to the school's psych. center after having an altercation with four people. This accomplished two things: 1) It proved to me that psychology IS worthless, and 2) Removed the school administration from my back.

This is much the same scenario. I must either go to this shrink, quit, or get fired. Quitting is the worst idea because I will have to replace the income immediately following my self-termination. If I get fired I would be able to have unemployment, but it makes it harder to find another job, and I'm not having the best of luck finding another job with a current job. Short-term disability, regardless of the cause falls under privacy laws. My employer will never be able legally provide the details of my leave to any third party and neither will a doctor.

You also have to think of it as fighting fire with fire. You can't beat these guys being a cynical rebel constantly pointing out that an upgrade in operating system is not migration. They don't understand that, they will hate you for that, but if you play along there are ways to exploit this culture. Disability for stress is just one of those exploits.

Besides, short-term disability is a benefit that I contibute an ever so small amount of money to. I'm just collecting my benefits. Think of it like a bank. You may have a savings account with a bank, but you can't just take the money out of it with out filling a withdrawl slip first. Going to a shrink is filling out the withdrawl slip.
